Heuveloord and Rotsoord keeps surprising us with cool new spots. We’re starting off 2017 well with the new Cafe Brutal, located under the water tower on the Vaartsche Rijn. By now the restaurant WT Urban Kitchen has reached ‘rockstar status’, but not everyone knew about the cosy cafe under it. But that’ll change this year, because Cafe Brutal just opened its doors and promises delicious Spanish wines and bites.
Wine on the scale
On the menu you’ll find good Spanish wines, snacks, and Iberian ham. Cafe Brutal is doing things a bit differently, serving wine not by the glass but by the bottle. Can’t finish the bottle? They’ll weigh it for you and you’ll only pay for what you drank. Quite cheeky and simple! We can already recommend the Rioja – a delicious, full-bodied red wine that complements the fresh Iberian ham nicely. The well-known Spanish tomato sauce has a bite, and the aioli is creamy and full of flavour. Put this on your agenda: a whole evening of dipping delicious crunchy breadsticks, drinking wine, and general cosiness!
Cafe Brutal offers a wine & food combo for 27.50. You get a bottle of house wine and a platter of Iberian charcuterie. With prices like this, you could go out for drinks every night!
Awesome terrace
Last year, I loved spending time on the terrace of the water tower on the Vaartsche Rijn. It’s a unique bit of Utrecht where you can watch boats sail by while you enjoy a drink & a snack. With the sun on your head in the summer, or under a heat lamp in the colder months, it’s definitely a great place to linger. Even if you don’t live in the neighbourhood, Cafe Brutal is worth the bike ride – that way you can also discover a vibrant part of Utrecht. So don’t wait any longer, let’s Explore Utrecht!
