Attention, shoppers! Utrecht is a great place to shop ’till you drop! The city has many boutiques, vintage shops, concept stores, gift shops or interior design stores to choose from. In this blog, I’ll share with you my favorite shopping streets and my best-kept secret: BERN in the Schoutenstraat.
Those boots are made for walking!
Shopping is ‘retail therapy’ and a great cardio workout! One of my favorite areas to shop is the Zadelstraat. Besides the magnificent view of the Dom Tower, the street is adorned by cute boutiques and cafés. So, whether you are looking for a gorgeous pair of designer shoes or fancy cakes for high-tea, Zadelstraat is the best place to start your shopping spree.
Another area, which should not be missed, is the Twijnstraat. It would only take you around 15 minutes walk along the beautiful Oudegracht from the city center. If you are looking for edgy and vintage fashion items, then you should try the Voorstraat. For those who prefer design items and concept stores, the Stadshuisplein and the Schoutenstraat are the best places to go to.
Shopping at BERN
Take a stroll in the Schoutenstraat and you will find a store called BERN, which is my favorite place to shop in Utrecht. I visit this store quite regularly, whether to check out their new collection or to catch up with the shop owner, Bernadette. She would keep me up-to-date about all kinds of things that take place in the city, while I’d be trying out a pile of clothes in the fitting room. BERN offers a small but diverse selection of expensive and affordable brands. Among my favorite fashion labels are Samsoe Samsoe, Iro and Essentiel Antwerp, which are part of Bernadette’s collection. Every season, Bernadette travels across Europe to find new items for her stores. It’s hard for me to restrain from buying a pair of new boots or accessories in her latest collection. I hardly ever leave the store empty-handed!
