The botanically brewed beer Lowlander is on tour with a pop-up dinner, and will be staying a number of days in the old Hortus of the University Museum. In this beautiful location, you can get acquainted with the different beers from Lowlander Beer combined with delicious dishes, provided by caterer Oud London.
A culinary exploration in the Old Hortus
Upon entering, the beautifully set table on the terrace of the museum café Ginkgo immediately stands out. The evening sun radiates the last rays of sunshine, and the Old Hortus is a peaceful haven.
The evening starts with an introduction and a delicious fruity beertail (a cocktail made from beer) in the greenhouse of the Oude Hortus. Then it is time to get a nice spot at the long dining table.
Lowlander beer pairing
The beers brewed with botanical herbs and spices take us on a trip to Curaçao, America and Indonesia. The White Ale is light and subtle with a tropical hint. The American Pale Ale is fresh and fruity. The I.P.A. is exotic and elegant with a slight bitterness. And Poorter is a dark, powerful and aromatic beer.
And what we ate with these beers? The 4-course dinner consisted of a starter with plaice, followed by a pea soup with foam of Pale Ale. The main course was a tender farmer’s chicken with beans in coconut and fried rice. The icing on the cake was the dessert with ice cream made by Poorter by our own Roberto Gelato.
A special evening in the Old Hortus
Lowlander Botanical Brew Kitchen Pop Up Dinner is a nice experience in a special location. The number of participants is limited and everyone sits together at the long table, which makes the atmosphere cozy. We attended the dinner as a couple, but then left with fine company to Noir to cheers to a very nice evening.
