Hello ‘The Streetfood Club’ Utrecht

During the opening of restaurant Fico on the Veilinghaven, my host whispered to me that he was busy working on something new – a super cool concept! He told me to be patient, and that he would keep me up to date. Well, I’m anything but patient, and immediately scoured the internet for hints. But unfortunately, my efforts to uncover his plans were unsuccessful… until I heard through the grapevine that Broers was closing.

Patience is a virtue

My imagination went wild! What can’t you do with that space? A cool spot to drink cocktails while a DJ spins tracks. A place where people come together to dine at length, from brunch to dinner. An interior that’s anything but safe and surprises the guest, for a change. Oh, I waited so long…

The Streetfood Club – ‘the place to be’

Welcome to my life, the Streetfood Club! As soon as you step inside, you’re inundated by bright colors, surprised by crazy accessories and cool chairs, and blinded by the light shining into the conservatory from the glass and lead roof. You can barely see enough to take in all the organized chaos around you.

The restaurant section is divided into two rooms: the eye-catching pink room and the hip green room. The green Asian oasis with wicker chairs, lots of green, and natural light is my favorite place for an evening of cocktails and delicious dishes. The open kitchen, DJ booth, and bar with lounge area are located in the back section. The restaurant closes at 23:00, and then the party keeps going until the morning! Bam!

Global menu

And the menu? It’s just as much organized chaos as the interior. Because why would you choose a specific cuisine? Dishes from different parts of the world are represented on the menu, so you can combine street food all evening long. And if it’s not spicy enough for you, just order the special hot sauce. Time to get lit! So far, my recommendations are: bread n dips, veggie samosa, streetfood duck, and spare ribs. The cocktail menu has been developed by a mixologist, so there’s no shortage of good cocktails. The Hello Kitty Cotton Candy is a bit too sweet for me, so for now my drink of choice is the Last Emperor.

I won’t bore you guys with any more text, because seeing is believing! Photographer and Explore Utrecht contributor Lars Verkroost has also surpassed himself and taken gorgeous pictures of Utrecht’s newest club. Reserve a table for dinner immediately after looking at these pictures. If you’re lucky, you’ll receive a confirmation that’s entirely in keeping with TFSC’s style. I’ll be testing the brunch menu soon, and that will deserve its own post, of course. Later!
