Hi, my name is Justine (30 years of age) and I live the nice neighborhood Lombok. I’m from Arnhem and I moved to Utrecht for love. It took me some time to get used to Utrecht — especially the biking culture — everyone just bikes through a red light. But now I think the city is absolutely awesome, and I have been living here for over two years now.
I can’t sit still for long and because of this I do a lot. I’m a content/marketing manager at Van der Valk Veenendaal and Breukelen. But I also work at Coffee Star in the library, located at the Oude Gracht. I like the job because I’m in contact with people. And I also work at Coffee Star, to gain some experience because it’s my dream to open up my own spot in the future. Next to all that working I run my own blog eatsleepdress.com. I started my blog because of my interest in people and food. I photograph people and tell a little about them on my blog. This combined with a recipe of there favorite dish. But I also write about food spots, great shops and my outfits.
When I moved to Utrecht I though the city was behind on nice places to eat. I had a hard time finding great spots to go to for lunch or dinner. But now, times have changed and the hotspots are popping up like crazy. Some of my favorites are: Portare de Via, Spaghetteria, de Frietwinkel, Kimmade, Amerikana & Dogma. These are all restaurants with a simple concept, I don’t really like fancy dinners anyway. Keep it cosy and what we Dutch call ‘gezellig’! Oh and let’s not forget Het Paradijs’. I go there often with friends on a Sunday for some dim-sum. For coffee I stop by Koffieboontje or Rabarber (they have very tasty pies there.). The best ice-cream you get at Roberto Gelato! I absolutely love ice cream and I think Roberto is the best in Utrecht.
Shop till you drop!
If you are looking for some awesome shopping and want to stay away from the standard shops, visit the Voorstraat. A few of my favorietes are: Klijs & Boon, Hutspot, Sissy Boy, Strandwest, it’s a present, Monki & Vanillia. And just outside the city center in Overvecht, there is a Nike outlet store. I go to the gym often so I need loads of sports-wear. At the outlet there is a nice selection at an affordable price. Looking for nice sunglasses? I can recommend Hall of Frame. They give great advice and help you choose the right frame that will fit the shape of your face. A big plus, their frames are exclusive so you won’t see loads of other people with the same style. Every Saturday I buy flowers at the Oude Gracht or the flower-market, located at Janskerkhof. Recently I discovered, ‘Le Jardin’ a flower shop on the Mariaplaats. The shops sells loads more like, cactuses.
- Walks through the park. Utrecht has many! My favoritea are: the Grift- and Wilhelmina park (tip: breakfast at Noon)
- Movie at Louis Hartlooper, grab something to eat as well, it’s good
- Visit a food-festival or streekmarkt
- Boating on the canals
