The City Archives

The Utrechts Archief, located at the Hamburgerstraat next to the restaurant Rechtbank, holds the entire history of Utrecht. And is also the centre for ecclesiastical archives and information on the Dutch Railways. The city archives consists of: cards, pictures, publications, movies about the history of Utrecht, the province and its people. On a regular basis the archives organizes events like; exhibitions and movie nights. Everyone who is interested in the history of the city and its people is more then welcome to have a look at the Utrechts Archief. At the archives you can even research your family tree, it’s the perfect place to start such a venture. For opening hours and events see the City Archives website. After you have plunged yourself into history come up for air and have a drink on the wonderful terrace of the Rechtbank, the restaurant next door. This is a great terrace to do some people watching and catch some sun.

The building where the city archives is located is a monument itself, has been renovated and brought back to life with a gorgeous new interior by ZECC architecten. I wouldn’t mind roaming around this gorgeous setting. Would you?
